About The Position

The Certified Medication Aide (CMA) at Heritage Park Rehabilitation and Skilled Nursing Center will be responsible for preparing, administering, and documenting prescribed medications for residents according to protocol. This role is crucial in ensuring residents receive their medications safely and accurately, while also assisting with various daily care needs.

Requirements

  • Successful completion of State Approved Medication Aide Training and Competency Evaluation Program.
  • Good standing in the state registry.
  • Demonstrate working knowledge of Universal Precautions and the Blood Borne Pathogen rules.
  • Ability to effectively communicate.
  • Ability to lift, transfer, push/pull, and carry residents and supplies.
  • Ability to stand, sit, walk, speak, hear/listen, see, and turn/twist/lean for extended periods.

Nice To Haves

  • High school diploma or equivalent is preferred.
  • One (1) year of previous health care experience is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Prepares, administers, and documents prescribed medications per protocol.
  • Administers prescribed medications and treatments in accordance with company policy and state regulations.
  • Observes and reports resident reactions and side effects to medications to the charge nurse.
  • Takes and records vital signs before administering medications that could affect them.
  • Documents and reports reasons for not administering prescribed drugs to the charge nurse.
  • Prepares and administers regularly prescribed medications after personally setting them up.
  • Documents administered medications in the resident's medication administration record.
  • Administers oxygen via nasal cannula or non-sealing face mask in emergencies and notifies the licensed nurse immediately.
  • Applies specifically ordered ophthalmic, otic, nasal, and vaginal medications.
  • Accurately follows all principles of good medication administration.
  • Assists with customary daily requirements and tasks in care and treatment, including bathing, feeding, dressing, observing intake, hair/nail care, moving residents, and responding to calls.
  • Helps charge nurses with the cleanliness of the nursing station, medication room, and supply room.
