About The Position

We are seeking care team members to join the Urology and Prostate surgery oncology team at Stephenson Cancer Center, the only NCI designated center in Oklahoma. Urologic cancers encompass those affecting the prostate, kidney, bladder and surrounding areas. Caring for this patient population is complex and multidisciplinary but incredibly rewarding. The care team, consisting of RNs, LPNs, MAs, and CTAs will collaborate with 8-10 providers per week to manage a patient load of 80-100 individuals daily, spanning form cancer surveillance to end-of-life care. The Certified Medical Assistant works alongside Physicians and Advanced Practice Providers to provide direct patient care according to state and federal guidelines. This position plays an important role in the ambulatory setting by not only performing clinical and administrative duties but also helping patients feel at ease and understanding provider instructions.

Requirements

High School Diploma or GED required.
Basic Life Support (American Heart Association) certification required upon hire.
Medical Assistant - American Medical Technologists (AMT) OR Registered Medical Assistant - American Association of Medical Personnel OR Registered Medical Assistant - American Allied Health OR Certified Medical Assistant - American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA) OR Certified Clinical Medical Assistant - National HealthCareer Association OR National Certified Medical Assistant - National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT) OR Nationally Registered Certified Medical Assistant - National Association for Health Professionals
Knowledge of medical terminology.
Ability to interact professionally with healthcare practitioners and patients.

Nice To Haves

Completion of an accredited Medical Assistant Program preferred.
0-3 years of experience in Patient Care as a Medical Assistant or similar patient care role preferred (for CMA I).
3-5 years of experience in Patient Care as a Medical Assistant or similar patient care role required (for CMA II).

Responsibilities

Provides direct patient care by taking vitals, patient history, venipuncture, lab, x-ray, referrals, and patient phone messages as directed by the provider and/or clinical supervisor
Adheres to National Patient Safety Goals as appropriate based on the level of patient contact this position requires
Contributes to the assessment/re-assessment of patients
Monitors and documents patient status
Manages large call volume while maintaining excellent telephone etiquette
Organizes workflow to meet patient needs in a timely manner
May retrieve and transport medications, instruments and supplies.
Responsible for stocking exam rooms, taking inventory, and ordering supplies.
Makes scheduling arrangements with other healthcare professionals and facilities.
Assists with procedures.
Maintaining sterile field and specimen labeling when necessary.
Gathers and documents information about patient condition, which include lab values, pain levels, patient education needs, nutritional status and potential complications
Performs cleaning, sterilization and/or high-level disinfection of scopes, probe, instruments and equipment according to manufacturer instructions for use.
Participates in the development of the plan of care, including implementation and evaluation of appropriate patient care interventions which may include oral, intramuscular, intradermal, and subcutaneous medication administration (exclusive of narcotics) as directed by a physician or physician assistant.
Reinforcing patient education about medications, post-surgical care, special diets, and changes in treatment plans.
Transmitting prescription refills as directed
Arranging for hospital admissions and patient care services
May precept new medical assistants
Participate in daily compliance audits, chart checks, and reporting safety events
De-escalate patient concerns
