About The Position

The Medical Assistant (MA) is a key member of the healthcare team, responsible for both clerical and direct patient care duties under the delegation of a provider, registered nurse, or Licensed Practical Nurse. Clerical tasks include greeting patients, managing phone calls, scheduling appointments, and maintaining electronic medical records (EMR). Clinical responsibilities involve preparing patients for examinations, taking medical histories, recording vital signs, setting up exam rooms for procedures, explaining treatments, facilitating patient flow, and assisting physicians, nurse practitioners, or physician assistants during examinations. This role requires a Certified or Registered Medical Assistant.

Requirements

  • Must be a Certified or Registered Medical Assistant
  • Completes and maintains all competencies and trainings as required for role
  • High School Diploma - OR - GED - OR - Graduate of a Medical Assistant Program
  • BLS Certification
  • Current Medical Assistant Certification awarded through American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA), the American Medical Technologists (AMT), the National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT), the American Medical Certification Association (AMCA), National Association of Healthcare Professionals (NAHP) or the National Healthcare Association (NHA). Medical Assistant Certification other than those listed requires THMG Leadership Approval.

Responsibilities

  • Gather, screen, communicate and act based on delegation from a provider, registered nurse or Licensed Practical nurse as per scope of practice
  • Perform clerical duties including greeting patients, answering telephones, scheduling appointments, and updating patients electronic medical record (EMR)
  • Perform clinical duties including rooming patients, taking medical histories, performing and recording vital signs
  • Prepare exam room for procedures
  • Explain treatment procedures to patients
  • Prepare patients for examination
  • Facilitation of patient flow through the office
  • Assist the Physician, Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant during examinations
