About The Position

Rivers Health is seeking a full-time Certified Medical Assistant or Licensed Practical Nurse for the General Surgery Office. The role assists the provider with treatment of patients in the office, handles administrative and nursing duties related to patient care, and maintains a high quality of care within an office setting.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an approved school of nursing for Licensed Practical Nurse, or Certified Medical Assistant Program.
  • Must hold an active certification/license.
  • One year experience preferred in a provider office or hospital related area working with direct patient care.

Responsibilities

  • Perform general nursing duties, including assessing patients' general condition and taking vital signs and history.
  • Assist physicians with examinations, diagnostic procedures, and treatments.
  • Document all activities, interventions, and medications in the patient record.
  • Obtain pre-certifications, pre-authorizations, and referrals from insurance companies.
  • Promote wellness by providing patient education materials and communicating physician advice and instructions.
  • Handle critical lab values and promptly seek physician orders.
  • Schedule outside referrals.
  • Assist with medical procedures.
  • Answer the telephone and schedule patients for office visits and/or hospital tests.
  • Send prescriptions into the pharmacy.
  • Call patients with test results.
  • Maintain exam rooms and other patient areas for physician examinations.
  • Ensure safety, infection control, and adherence to other policies and procedures in the office.
  • Perform routine office laboratory procedures.
  • Maintain equipment and supplies needed for patient care.
  • Triage telephone patient care issues directly to the clinic provider.
  • Adhere to Corporate Policies, JCAHO, Rural Health, Departmental Policies and Procedures, and Personnel Employee Handbook.
  • Demonstrate professionalism and accountability.
  • Foster an atmosphere of teamwork and collaboration.
  • Fill in during co-workers' absence, covering for other nursing personnel and completing their duties.
  • Perform general receptionist duties including answering phones, scheduling patients, preparing cash receipts, registering patients, and entering daily charges.
  • Other duties as assigned.
