About The Position

The Certified Medical Assistant provides direct, age-specific care to a patient or group of patients based on medical orders and the plan of care under the direction of the physician. This role involves providing patient care, emotional support, and problem-solving in accordance with hospital, nursing, and unit policies and procedures. Job duties may include handling, transporting, accessing, and/or contacting medications and related supplies. Certified Medical Assistants work all three shifts, weekends, and holidays. Schedules, including shift rotations and hours of work, may be adjusted as necessary to meet clinic requirements.

Requirements

• Current Medical Assistant Certification through a recognized national professional association (e.g., AAMA, AMT, NHA, ARMA, NHA).
• AHA BLS HCP Certification or equivalent.
• One (1) year of medical assistant work experience within the last three (3) years if not a graduate of a medical assistant program.
• Previous experience using a personal computer and various software applications, including Microsoft and e-mail.
• Demonstrated experience utilizing strong organizational, problem solving, communication and interpersonal skills.
• High School Diploma or equivalent.

Nice To Haves

• Two (2) to three (3) years of previous experience as a Certified Medical Assistant.
• Previous experience in an academic health care environment.
• Graduation from a Medical Assisting training program from an accredited program of study such as CAAHEP or ABHES.

Responsibilities

• Provides direct, age-specific care to a patient or group of patients based on medical orders and the plan of care under the direction of the physician.
• Functions under the direction of a licensed independent practitioner, manager and/or RN in providing patient care, emotional support, and problem solving.
• Handles, transports, accesses, and/or contacts medications and related supplies.
