Requirements

  • CPR certification for Health Care Providers.
  • Certified Medical Assistant license
  • 3 years experience in an office environment preferred.
  • Medical terminology.
  • Strong organizational and interpersonal skills
  • Knowledge of CPT & ICD-9/ICD-10 coding procedures.
  • Knowledge of medications and injection procedures.
  • Ability to multi-task efficiently and effectively.
  • Must be able to act calmly and effectively in a busy or stressful situation.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in the English language in person, by phone and in writing.
  • Requires adherence to all policies and procedures, including but not limited to standards for safety, attendance, punctuality and personal appearance.

Responsibilities

  • Room patients, obtain vitals, patient history and reason for seeking care.
  • Process telephone messages.
  • Follow prescription refill procedures.
  • Maintain patient records confidentially.
  • Greets patients and visitors in a prompt, courteous, and helpful manner
  • Measure and record vital signs (weight, height, blood pressure, etc.)
  • Ensure accurate and timely documentation into the EMR; i.e. patient interview and history, vital signs, treatments, test results.
  • Assists medical staff with patient examinations
  • Uses CPR skills when necessary
  • Collects, verifies, and enters into the applicable system, all incoming referrals and imaging as necessary
  • Changes dressings, applies bandages, removes sutures and performs other simple wound care procedures as directed by the physician
  • Processes internal/external referrals, including sending and calling in prescriptions
  • Prepares and administers ordered injectable medications
  • Record patient charges and lab charges for billing department.
  • Assist the provider with patient education pertaining to their ongoing health care: Results of lab and reports, Diet and exercise, Laboratory and radiology preparation
  • Must be able to recognize and respond appropriately to urgent/emergent situations per protocols.
  • Maintain work area, exam rooms, supplies, medications and immunizations.
  • Perform basic triage per specific office protocol procedures.
  • Maintain professional appearance and personal conduct at all times.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with physicians, staff and management.
  • Effectively cope with typical job stress.
  • Document work processes as required.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Follows all equipment safety guidelines and is personally responsible for knowledgeable use and care for all business equipment.
  • Answers telephone, screens calls, takes necessary messages and provides information.
  • Screens visitors and responds to routine request for information
  • Maintains inventory of office supplies
  • Attends meetings as required
  • Maintains strictest confidentiality and privacy per HIPAA guidelines
  • Cross trains to fill in and effectively perform all other job descriptions
