About The Position

Under the supervision of the Charge Nurse and Nurse Assistant Manager, the Medical Assistant provides basic patient care in a correctional health center setting. The Medical Assistant is an integral member of the care team responsible for supporting clinical operations, assisting providers, and ensuring efficient patient flow while maintaining high standards of patient care and safety.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required
  • Certification as a Clinical Medical Assistant
  • Current BLS + AED CPR certification
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work effectively in a correctional health setting and with diverse populations

Responsibilities

  • Maintain patient and Electronic Health Record (EHR) confidentiality
  • Prepare patients and EHR for provider visits and assist during examinations as needed
  • Obtain and document vital signs, height, weight, chief complaint, and patient medical history
  • Perform routine clinical and laboratory procedures, including urine dipsticks, phlebotomy, finger/heel sticks, injections, immunizations, and EKGs
  • Maintain cleanliness, organization, and supply levels in clinical areas
  • Support pre-visit planning for Primary Provider and PCMH team workflows
  • Provide basic chronic disease education to patients as needed
  • Coordinate referrals, appointments, and follow-up for patients
  • Communicate effectively with providers and care team to ensure continuity of care
  • Maintain clinical logs, equipment checks, and sterilization processes
  • Adhere to Universal Precautions and Unity Health Care policies and procedures
  • Perform other duties as assigned
