About The Position

The Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) provides clinical and administrative support to licensed medical providers within outpatient and residential substance use treatment programs. The CMA assists with patient care coordination, medical procedures, documentation, and medication-related workflows under provider supervision, ensuring safe, efficient, and patient-centered care.

Requirements

  • Minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent.
  • Graduate of an accredited medical assisting program.
  • Current CMA certification (AAMA, NHA, or equivalent).
  • Basic knowledge of medical terminology and clinical procedures.

Nice To Haves

  • CPR/BLS certification.
  • Experience in behavioral health, substance use treatment, outpatient or residential healthcare settings.

Responsibilities

  • Provide clinical and administrative support to licensed medical providers (PA-C and/or physician) under delegated authority and supervision.
  • Prepare patients for medical appointments by obtaining and documenting vital signs, medical histories, medication lists, and other required clinical information.
  • Assist the medical provider during physical examinations, assessments, and procedures.
  • Perform delegated clinical tasks, including phlebotomy, specimen collection, injections, vaccinations, and authorized point-of-care testing, following training and competency validation.
  • Accurately document clinical information, patient interactions, and care coordination activities in the electronic health record (EHR).
  • Schedule and coordinate in-house medical appointments and assist with referrals to outside medical providers and specialists.
  • Obtain, organize, and maintain external medical records and ensure continuity of care.
  • Support medication-related workflows, including medication reconciliation, patient education per provider direction, and medication oversight processes at assigned locations.
  • Assist with discharge preparation and coordination, including follow-up appointments and medical instructions.
  • Communicate professionally with patients, medical staff, and interdisciplinary team members in a trauma-informed and recovery-oriented manner.
  • Maintain patient confidentiality and comply with HIPAA, CARF standards, infection control practices, and organizational policies.
  • Participate in quality improvement, accreditation support, and compliance activities as assigned.
  • Maintain required certifications, competencies, and ongoing training.
