About The Position

We are a multispecialty Women's Clinic located in downtown Charleston at 135 Cannon Street, a busy clinic with over 25 exam rooms running for up to 8 providers at a time. We see obstetrical, high risk obstetrical, gynecological, surgical, procedural, and family planning patients. The Certified Medical Assistant reports to the Outpatient Clinic Manager. Under the direct supervision of a Registered Nurse, the Certified Medical Assistant performs multi-skilled activities to support a decentralized patient-centered approach to patient care and achieve desired outcomes. Assists in examination and treatment of patients under the direction of a physician. Interviews patients, measures vital signs (i.e., pulse rate, temperature, blood pressure, weight, and height), and records or inputs information to patients' medical record. Prepares treatment rooms for examination of patients.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Completion of an accredited medical assisting program with one year of patient care experience preferred.
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) required, either a certification from an American Heart Association (AHA) BLS for Healthcare Providers (or AHA recognized equivalent) or an American Red Cross CPR/AED for Professional Rescuer and Healthcare Provider.

  • Ability to lift/lower objects 50 lbs. from/to floor from/to 36 inches unassisted.
  • Ability to lift from 36" to overhead 25 lbs.
  • Ability to exert up to 50 lbs. of force.
  • Ability to maintain 20/40 vision, corrected, in one eye or with both eyes.
  • Ability to see and recognize objects close at hand or at a distance.
  • Ability to match or discriminate between colors.
  • Ability to determine distance/relationship between objects; depth perception.
  • Good peripheral vision capabilities.
  • Ability to maintain hearing acuity, with correction.
  • Ability to perform gross motor functions with frequent fine motor movements.
  • Ability to deal effectively with stressful situations.
  • Ability to work in a latex safe environment.
  • Ability to maintain tactile sensory functions.
  • Ability to maintain good olfactory sensory function.
  • Ability to be qualified physically for respirator use, initially and as required.
