About The Position

The Medical Assistant helps keep the clinic running smoothly and works with healthcare providers to care for patients. Patients come from different backgrounds and age groups, including babies, children, teenagers, adults, and older adults. The Medical Assistant's job is to support and assist with tasks that the Nurse and Provider assign, following the rules set by the Minnesota Board of Nursing and the Minnesota Board of Medical Practice. The Medical Assistant works closely with the Clinic Supervisor, Clinic Manager, and providers to meet the needs of patients, daily tasks, and the goals of the clinic. Clinical Care: The Medical Assistant will carry out both clinical (health-related) and office tasks to help manage patients in the clinic. Some tasks include: - Preparing patient rooms - Giving shots, vaccines, and medicine as instructed by the provider - Collecting lab samples when needed Depending on the specialty and location of the clinic, the Medical Assistant may also: - Provide phone support - Help patients communicate with their providers - Assist with refilling prescriptions - Perform x-ray duties if qualified - Conduct blood draws - Carry out lab tests at the clinic Clinic Support: The Medical Assistant may also help with tasks at the clinic, such as: - Front desk or check-in support - Ordering and organizing supplies - Assisting with prior authorizations for treatments Other Responsibilities: The Medical Assistant needs to show they are skilled in the tasks defined in their job description. They should keep improving their skills and learn any new required skills. They will take on other duties as needed to help the clinic succeed. The Medical Assistant follows directions from the Physician, Provider, Registered Nurse, Clinic Supervisor, and Clinic Manager. Compliance: The Medical Assistant must keep patient and team member information private and only access it when necessary for their job. They should report any concerns or problems to their supervisor or Corporate Compliance Officer. They should also understand and follow all legal and procedural requirements related to their work.

Requirements

  • Must be a high school graduate or have an equivalent (like a GED).
  • Must have completed a Medical Assistant program approved by a national organization.
  • Must have previous experience in a clinic.
  • Must have experience with blood draws.
  • Must have passed the x-ray operator exam or be willing to take it depending on the clinic’s needs.
  • Must be able to manage multiple tasks effectively.
  • Must be able to drive to different local sites, especially for Occupational Medicine.
  • Must have current BLS Certification.
