About The Position

Vanderbilt University Medical Center (VUMC) is seeking a Certified Medical Assistant for a PRN position with flexible scheduling at their walk-in clinic. This role involves assisting providers with examinations and procedures, managing patient flow, gathering patient data, performing diagnostic tests, educating patients and families, maintaining rooms and instruments, ordering supplies, scheduling appointments, triaging calls, handling correspondence, and managing insurance referrals. The ideal candidate is highly organized, capable of multitasking, works efficiently, and collaborates effectively within a team. The Medical Assistant reports directly to the Provider/Office Manager.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an approved discipline specific program (Required)

  • Less than 1 year of experience
  • Uses current technology to pull patients expeditiously from waiting rooms to exam areas.
  • Proactively communicates delays to patients.
  • Regulates patient flow/check-in as per protocol.
  • Assists and covers the front desk and phones as needed.
  • Demonstrates professional behavior in all setting visible to patients and visitors.
  • Proactively identifies patient/visitor needs and takes steps to assist.
  • Gathers screening and other data for the health care team.

  • Sends/receives and accurately routes referral and precertification information.
