About The Position

The SBHC Certified Medical Assistant works as part of the medical team performing clinical and clerical duties necessary to prepare patients for a visit. This role involves preparing medical charts, gathering patient information, and ensuring smooth patient flow throughout the Health Center. The position is full-time, 40 hours per week, non-exempt, and operates during the SBHC calendar school year (August - May). Work schedules are generally Monday - Friday, subject to change based on clinical operations and the needs of DRCHC.

Requirements

  • Completion of an accredited medical assistant program and current CMA certification.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Basic familiarity with routine medical protocol and terminology.
  • Excellent organizational and multitasking abilities.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a healthcare team.
  • Experience with electronic health records required, preferably Next Gen or similar EHS.
  • BLS required (American Heart Association)

Responsibilities

  • Ensures patient confidentiality and provides patients with needed information.
  • Collect patient medical histories and personal information.
  • Manage patient medical records and update in EHR.
  • Manage medical supply inventory.
  • Prepare examination rooms for patient visits.
  • Ensure rooms are adequately stocked with necessary supplies.
  • Clean medical instruments and examinations rooms.
  • Take and record vital signs (temperature, blood pressure, pulse, weight).
  • Assist provider with examinations and procedures.
  • Administer medications and injections as directed.
  • Establishes that each patient is advised of patient rights and other necessary education tools to assist the patient.
  • Performs other duties required to meet the goal of providing primary health care.
  • Prepares community care referrals as needed.
  • Reports abnormal results to the physician.
  • Observes for the presence of any urgent problems needing immediate attention.
  • Perform other related duties as required or necessary.
