About The Position

Under the direction of the physician, the Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) provides clinical and administrative support to podiatry providers in a fast-paced outpatient setting. The CMA assists with patient care, procedures, patient education, and office operations while ensuring excellent customer service and adherence to Wilson Health standards, policies, and regulatory requirements.

Requirements

High school diploma or equivalent.
Current Certified Medical Assistant (CMA), Registered Medical Assistant (RMA), or eligible to obtain certification within a designated timeframe.
Current BLS certification or ability to obtain within established timeframe.
Knowledge of medical terminology and basic clinical procedures.
Proficiency with electronic health records (EHR) - EPIC
One (1) year of medical assistant experience in a physician office setting.
Prior experience in podiatry, orthopedics, wound care, or a related specialty.
Experience assisting with minor procedures and patient education.
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.

Responsibilities

Prepare patients for examination and treatment by obtaining and documenting vital signs, medical history, medications, and chief complaints.
Assist providers with podiatric procedures, including nail care, wound care, injections, casting, splinting, and minor office-based procedures.
Set up, clean, and stock examination and treatment rooms.
Perform dressing changes and wound care as directed by the provider.
Apply and remove casts, splints, boots, and other orthopedic devices as instructed.
Assist with diabetic foot examinations and patient education.
Prepare specimens for laboratory testing and ensure proper documentation and handling.
Administer medications and injections as permitted by certification, training, and state regulations.
Ensure all instruments and equipment are properly cleaned, maintained, and sterilized according to infection control standards.
Schedule appointments, procedures, referrals, and follow-up visits.
Accurately document patient information in the electronic medical record (EMR).
Process prescription refill requests and prior authorizations as directed.
Coordinate diagnostic testing, consultations, and referrals.
Answer patient calls and respond to inquiries in a professional and timely manner.
Assist with insurance verification and other front-office functions as needed.
Provide exceptional customer service to patients, families, and visitors.
Educate patients on treatment plans, medications, wound care, and post-procedure instructions.
Maintain patient confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA regulations.
Promote a positive and welcoming environment for all patients.
