About The Position

SMG Internal Medicine Port Warwick is seeking a Certified Medical Assistant to join our team in Newport News, VA. This is a full-time position, Monday through Friday, with approximately 40 hours per week. The typical schedule is from 8:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., depending on provider workflow. A sign-on bonus of up to $5,000 is available for eligible candidates. The CERTIFIED Medical Assistant performs patient care and administrative/clerical tasks under the direction and supervision of a physician, NP/PA, RN, or LPN. They are responsible for maintaining a safe environment for patients, visitors, and employees. The role involves providing patient care, performing administrative duties, assessing situations, developing action plans, and evaluating outcomes. The Medical Assistant must demonstrate the specific skills and knowledge required for the role, interact effectively with other departments, and adhere to all policies and procedures. Efficiency in daily operations and responsible use of resources are expected.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma OR equivalency
  • Must have one of the following one on the first day of employment: Certified Medical Assistant, Registered Medical Assistant, Certified Clinical Medical Assistant, Certified EMT (EMT-B)
  • BLS within 90 days of hire date
  • Phlebotomy experience

Responsibilities

  • Performs patient care and administrative/clerical related tasks and procedures based on training, education, and competency evaluations, and as delegated by and under the direction/supervision of the Physician, Nurse Practitioner/Physician Assistant (NP/PA), Registered Nurse (RN), or Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN).
  • Provides an environment for safety; identifies, addresses, and incorporates principles of safety for the patient, visitors, and employees.
  • Provides patient care tasks and procedures and administrative duties (as appropriate).
  • Demonstrates the ability to objectively assess a specific situation from a few viewpoints considers an array of alternatives, assists with the development of realistic action plans and evaluates outcomes.
  • Demonstrates the development of the specific skills and knowledge required of medical assistants, effective inter-departmental interactions, and ability to follow department and system policies, procedures, and practices.
  • Productive and efficient in daily operations.
  • Utilizes appropriate resources that are safe, effective, ethical, and fiscally responsible.
