About The Position

The Certified Medical Assistant is responsible for the delivery of patient care that promotes the safety and well being of all patients. Accurately performs preliminary physical tests such as: measuring blood pressure, recording weight, temperature, pulse and respiration and other measures as directed by established clinical protocols. This role may also involve front office duties and other assigned tasks.

Requirements

  • H.S. Diploma or Equivalent (Required)
  • Successful completion of THPG Clinical Training (CT) educational program with demonstrated competency in required skills-within 90 days of job entry (Required)
  • CMA - Certified Medical Assistant (Required)
  • BCLS - Basic Cardiac Life Support Exception Quarterly 90 Days Upon Hire (Required)

Nice To Haves

  • 1 year of Medical Assistant experience (Preferred)
  • 2-3 years of experience, with a PCP office or Specialty clinic as a Medical Assistant (Strongly Preferred)
  • Front Office experience (Preferred)
  • ACLS - Advanced Cardiac Life Support (Preferred)

Responsibilities

  • Perform general patient care by following established standards and procedures.
  • Greet and prepare patients for the health care provider.
  • Obtain and record vital signs including, but not limited to: blood pressure, temperature, pulse, respiration, height, weight, drug allergies, and current medications and presenting problem.
  • Administer ordered medications and/or vaccines via oral, injection, topical, rectal, ophthalmic, and/or inhalant administration.
  • May be required to draw and collect blood samples from patients and prepare specimens for laboratory analysis as well as perform routine tests such as EKG's.
  • Schedule patients for diagnostic testing and follow up to ensure completion of testing.
  • Document patient plan(s) of care, tests and examination results in the medical record as directed by the provider.
  • Communicate with patient regarding test results and plan of care by phone or mail as directed by the provider.
  • Prepare, clean and sterilize instruments and maintain equipment, disposing of contaminated items according to protocol. Keep patient exam rooms stocked, clean and orderly.
  • Escalate non-routine issues, questions and/or concerns to the practice manager or healthcare provider(s).
  • Ensure safety checklists/quality controls are completed as required.
  • Provide for patient safety and protection of patient privacy rights.
  • May work in the front office as needed, as well as perform other duties as assigned by practice manager, more senior staff, or as requested by healthcare provider(s).
