About The Position

Carolina Pines Regional Medical Center, a 116-bed community hospital in Hartsville, SC, is seeking a Certified Medical Assistant for its primary care clinic. The Certified Medical Assistant will perform both clinical and administrative duties to support physicians and nurses, utilizing certified-level competencies for comprehensive patient care. This role involves advanced diagnostic tasks and delegated medical procedures within the scope of practice, ensuring a high-quality patient experience while upholding clinical standards and organizational values.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited Medical Assistant program.
  • Current certification as a Certified Medical Assistant (CMA, RMA, or equivalent) required.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required at time of hire.
  • Proficiency in electronic health records (EHRs) and clinical software.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, and pharmacology.
  • Ability to triage patient concerns and escalate appropriately.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team.
  • Consistently professional in demeanor and appearance.
  • Attention to accuracy and adherence to safety protocols.
  • Regularly required to stand, walk, bend, stoop, and reach.
  • Ability to lift and transport up to 50 pounds.
  • Use of personal protective equipment as needed.
  • Frequent exposure to blood, body fluids, and communicable diseases.
  • May involve exposure to cleaning agents and hazardous materials.
  • Must follow established safety procedures and protocols.
  • Demonstrated clinical competency and ability to manage multiple priorities efficiently.
  • Must be able to work independently in a high-paced environment.

Nice To Haves

  • Minimum of one year experience in an outpatient or physician practice setting preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in rooming patients, taking vitals, performing EKGs, and assisting in office-based procedures under physician supervision.
  • Conduct certified-level clinical procedures such as vaccine administration, wound care, and specimen collection.
  • Prepare and administer medications under physician direction per certification guidelines.
  • Perform advanced administrative functions, including coordination of care, insurance verification, prior authorizations, and patient education.
  • Maintain, calibrate, and troubleshoot clinical equipment in accordance with regulatory standards.
  • Ensure proper documentation of clinical tasks and maintain EMR accuracy.
  • Serve as a clinical resource and mentor for uncertified staff when appropriate.
  • Maintain compliance with OSHA, HIPAA, and infection control procedures.
  • Engage in continuing education and training to maintain certification and advance skills.
  • Support quality and performance improvement efforts across the clinic.
