About The Position

This position is for a Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) who will function as a member of the patient care team, performing medical assisting duties. The CMA is expected to approach tasks in a team-based fashion, supporting patients and their families in self-management, self-efficacy, and behavior change. Working with the primary care team, the CMA ensures continuity and coordination of care within a primary care medical home. Regular driving may be required for some locations. Further details on core functions are outlined in Clinical Affairs Policy 900.042 (Medical Assistant Functions) and 2001.016 (Health Center Drug Dispensing & Administration).

Requirements

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED) required.
  • Graduate of an accredited medical assisting program; OR successful completion of the internal PMS Medical Assistant II training and assessment program; OR one year experience as a Medical Assistant.
  • Must be deemed competent in phlebotomy at time of hire.
  • Must have by date of hire and maintain current throughout employment a national certification/registration which enables participation in Computerized Provider Order Entry (CPOE) as defined by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS). This includes certifications such as CMA (AAMA), RMA (AMT or AAH), CCMA (NHA), NCMA (NCCT), MA1 (MedCA), CCBMA, NRCMA (NAHP), or CCMA (NPS).
  • Have or be able to obtain First Aid and BLS/CPR certification within 30 days of hire date, meeting requirements listed in “BLS / CPR / ACLS & First Aid Training Resources”.
  • Comply with required healthcare personnel testing and immunizations (TB, Hepatitis B, Tdap, MMR, Varicella, and Influenza).
  • Must pass skills competency assessments within 90 days of hire and as required throughout employment.

Nice To Haves

  • Thorough knowledge of nursing aide duties preferred.
  • Ability to speak Spanish or Navajo desired.

Responsibilities
