About The Position

This role is for a Certified Medical Assistant in an Orthopedic setting within an Ambulatory Care Building. The primary shift is 8a-5p. The Medical Assistant will perform duties such as patient triage, taking vital signs, recording patient history, administering injections, scheduling tests and procedures as ordered by the Physician, and utilizing the electronic health record (EHR). The position requires adherence to organizational policies, HIPAA regulations, and a commitment to providing excellent patient care and customer service.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or general equivalency diploma (GED).
  • Medical assistant certification from a nationally recognized organization (Such as: CMA, CCMA, or RMA), required.
  • CCMA certification.
  • BLS certification.
  • Knowledge of health care field and medical office protocols/procedures.
  • Knowledge of specific assisting tasks related to family & geriatric medical practice.
  • Knowledge of information that must be conveyed to patients and families.
  • Skill in performing medical assistance tasks appropriately.
  • Skill in tact and diplomacy in interpersonal interactions.
  • Skill in understanding patient education needs by effectively sharing information with patients and families.
  • Ability to learn and retain information regarding patient care procedures.
  • Ability to project a pleasant and professional image.
  • Ability to plan, prioritize, and complete delegated tasks.
  • Ability to demonstrate compassion and caring when dealing with others.
  • Must be able to communicate effectively in both verbal and written formats.
  • Ability to critically think through complex patient situations, process improvements, and evidence-based practice.

Nice To Haves

  • Medical Assisting Degree, preferred.
  • Minimum one year of working in a medical facility as a medical assistant and/or documented evidence of externship completed in a medical office, preferred.
  • Electrocardiogram (EKG), vital signs, venipuncture, capillary, and injection experience.

Responsibilities

  • Obtain medical history, triage patients, and record vital signs.
  • Reconcile medication list in EHR.
  • Respond timely and appropriately to tasks.
  • Give injections per physician order, including Hepatitis A&B, PPD, and flu vaccine.
  • Report any abnormal results to the physician immediately (e.g., labs).
  • Schedule tests and procedures per physician orders.
  • Maintain clean exam rooms.
  • Comply with HIPAA privacy and security requirements to maintain patient confidentiality at all times.
  • Adhere to organizational policy and procedure.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Maintain compliance with all company policies, procedures, and standards of conduct.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to service, organization values, and professionalism through appropriate conduct and demeanor at all times.
  • Maintain confidentiality and protect sensitive data at all times.
