About The Position

The Certified Medical Assistant provides direct, age-specific care to a patient or group of patients based on medical orders and the plan of care under the direction of the physician. This role involves functions under the direction of a licensed independent practitioner, manager and/or RN in providing patient care, emotional support, and problem solving; all in accordance with hospital, nursing and unit policy/procedure. Requires prior approval or guidance from supervisor for time/schedule changes, legal issues, directed care which deviates from standard, and identifying educational resources to meet developmental needs. Job duties may include the handling, transportation, access to and/or contact with medications and related supplies. Certified Medical Assistants work all three shifts, weekends and holidays. Individual shift rotation and schedules will be established with your specific Nurse Manager/Practice Manager. Schedules, including requirements of shift rotations and hours of work may be adjusted as necessary to meet clinic requirements and/or as needed.

Requirements

  • Current Medical Assistant Certification through a recognized national professional association (e.g., AAMA, AMT, NHA, ARMA, NHA).
  • AHA BLS HCP Certification or equivalent.
  • One (1) year of medical assistant work experience within the last three (3) years if not a graduate of a medical assistant program.
  • Previous experience using a personal computer and various software applications, including Microsoft, e-mail, etc.
  • Demonstrated experience utilizing strong organizational, problem solving, communication and interpersonal skills.
  • High School Diploma or equivalent.

Nice To Haves

  • Two (2) to three (3) years of previous experience as a Certified Medical Assistant.
  • Previous experience in an academic health care environment.
  • Graduation from a Medical Assisting training program from an accredited program of study such as CAAHEP or ABHES.
