The Certified Medical Assistant Scribe plays a crucial role in patient care under the supervision of a physician or advanced practice provider in an ambulatory setting, also acting as a medical scribe.

Requirements

  • High school graduate or equivalent.
  • Successful completion of Medical Assistant training from an approved technical school (or at least one (1) year of verifiable and applicable work experience as a Medical Assistant in a patient care setting in addition to the experience required under the Experience section).
  • Successful completion of a Medical Assistant Scribe training program.
  • Maintains current BLS Healthcare Provider Certification.
  • Hold completion certification of a Scribe training program.
  • Maintains current certification by one of the following agencies: Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA) by National Healthcareer Association (NHA), Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) by the American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA), Clinical Medical Assistant Certification (CMAC) by the American Medical Certification Association (AMCA), National Certified Medical Assistant (NCMA) by National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT), Nationally Registered Certified Medical Assistant (NRCMA) or Nationally Registered Certified Advanced Medical Assistant (NRCAMA) by the National Association for Health Professionals (NAHP), Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) by American Medical Technologists (AMT), the American Registry of Medical Assistants (ARMA), or by American Allied Health (AAH).
  • Minimum three (3) years as a Certified Medical Assistant.

  • Applicants with an accepted Medical Assistant certification or registration from an agency not listed will be considered on a case-by-case basis.

Responsibilities

  • Accurately and thoroughly document medical visits and procedures as they are being performed by the physician, including patient medical history, physical exams, procedures and treatments, patient education, and physician-dictated diagnoses and prescriptions.
  • Prepare referral letters as directed by the physician.
  • Accountable for operational issues to the Assistant Nurse Manager, Nursing Operations Manager, or Practice Manager.
  • Embrace and participate in quality initiatives, goal attainment, and clinical outcome process improvement activities.
  • Support and demonstrate effective and professional communication with patients and family members.
  • Work collaboratively with administrative and operations staff.
  • Gather patient data through interview and observation.
  • Assist patients and families with preparation for examination.
  • Assist the physician during examination and procedures.
  • Demonstrate competency in specific tasks and skills as defined by the practice.
  • Provide routine treatments and administer approved medication types as ordered by the provider.
  • Help develop and coordinate the orientation process for Medical Assistants Scribes, acting as an MA scribe preceptor and/or overseeing assigned preceptor(s).
  • Document patient data, treatments, procedures, and patient education according to Orlando Health and department-specific policies.
  • Assist the physician by acting as a liaison on behalf of the patient to schedule specialty testing or consultations.
  • Process incoming and outgoing calls in an independent and professional manner using sound clinical judgment.
  • Help lead and participate in departmental committees and special projects as assigned.
  • Adhere to and assure compliance with Orlando Health and department-specific policies, procedures, value statements, and Commitment to Excellent standards.
  • Consistently demonstrate personal and patient safety practices and adherence to infection control standards.
  • Maintain reasonably regular, punctual attendance consistent with Orlando Health policies, the ADA, FMLA, and other relevant standards.
  • Maintain compliance with all Orlando Health policies and procedures.
  • Demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to provide care and assess data appropriate to the age-specific needs of patients.
  • Demonstrate awareness of medical/legal issues, patient rights, and compliance with regulatory and accrediting agencies.
  • Practice efficient use of supplies.
  • Assist the business office as needed with reception, scheduling, and discharge of patients.
