About The Position

Wellstar is seeking a Certified Medical Assistant to join their Primary Care team in East Cobb. This role functions under the direction of physicians and other clinical leaders, focusing on patient care from preparation for exams to assisting during treatments and coordinating follow-up care. The Medical Assistant will record treatment details, explain instructions to patients and families, and demonstrate competency in serving patients of all ages. The position may also involve front office registration, laboratory testing, and radiology functions within a specialty setting. Requirements

  • High School Diploma / GED General or Other / Certificate Medical Assisting
  • BLS - Basic Life Support or ARC-BLS - Amer Red Cross Basic Life Support or BLS-I - Basic Life Support - Instructor
  • CMA - Cert Medical Assistant or NRCMA (NAHP) - Nationally Registered Certified Medical Assistant or NCMA - National Certified Medical Assistant or RMA - Registered Medical Assistant or CCMA - Certified Clinical Medical Assistant
  • Successfully passed a Medical Assistant credentialing body examination (AAMA, AMT, NHA, or NCCT) with current and maintained Medical Assistant Credential
  • Current BLS card from the American Heart Association
  • Complete the required OSHA training course for operators of radiology equipment within 60 Days
  • Must be organized and attentive to detail.
  • Must be able to work quickly and efficiently to assure patient comfort and satisfaction.
  • Able to communicate and understand verbal and written English language.
  • Optimize the use of technology to support clinical care.
  • Holds basic computer skills.
  • Adhere to the WellStar Credo and Code of Conduct.

Responsibilities

  • Provides relationship-based, patient-centered care consistent with population-specific characteristics and cultural diversity.
  • Partners with patients and families, keeping patients at ease through collaborative and communicative care.
  • Prepares patients for visits, rooms, and equipment, and assists physicians/APPs with treatments.
  • Carries out orders generated from office visits and responds to patient requests.
  • Maintains patient safety at all times.
  • May support front office operations including check-in, check-out, and scheduling.
  • Provides patient care in accordance with recognized clinical practice guidelines and standards.
  • Adheres to federal, state, and local laws, regulations, and organizational standards.
  • Upholds all healthcare system/organizational policies, procedures, and clinical competencies.
  • Collaborates with providers, nurses, and clinical staff for continuity of care.
  • Participates in daily huddles, staff meetings, and workgroups/committees.
  • Demonstrates teamwork and collaboration in an inclusive manner.
  • Participates in quality improvement initiatives.
  • May serve as a preceptor for onboarding new team members, trainees, or students.
  • Registers patients upon entrance and performs necessary registration operations.
  • Performs vitals and other duties to prepare patients.
  • Rotates among clinical and non-clinical service areas such as lab, x-ray, and front office.
  • Cross-trains other team members.
  • Performs radiographic and other diagnostic imaging procedures.
  • Prepares and positions patients for imaging procedures, ensuring proper techniques and radiation protection.
  • Obtains optimum views as ordered by the physician.
  • Processes images and reviews for proper identification and quality control.
  • Starts lab equipment daily and maintains logs and documentation.
  • Performs laboratory tests according to orders and instructions.
  • Draws blood samples and performs Point of Care testing.
  • Orders and stocks supplies weekly.
  • Performs daily quality control and cleaning procedures.
  • Completes all initial and ongoing professional competency assessments, mandatory education, and population-specific education.
  • Demonstrates leadership by identifying areas for improvement and suggesting solutions.
  • Regularly reflects on personal performance and seeks training or mentorship.
  • Supports efficient and effective use of material resources, minimizing waste.
  • Alerts supervisors when supplies are running low.
  • May provide staffing coverage for absences, vacations, and leave.
  • Coordinates the delivery and documentation of safe quality patient care.
  • Promotes a respectful, inclusive clinical environment.
  • Practices in a manner that is fiscally responsible.
  • Promotes Evidence Based Practice in regards to safe, quality patient care.
  • Participates in activities such as value analysis.
  • Ensures compliance with TJC Patient Safety Goals and WellStar Health Systems safety absolutes.
  • May serve as practice Safety Coach.
  • Participates in data collection and poses relevant clinical questions.
  • Consults appropriate experts and uses resources to address practice questions.
  • Proactively plans for patient care across the care continuum.
  • Participates in the development of protocols and procedures.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Complies with all Wellstar Health System policies, standards of work, and code of conduct.
