About The Position

Perform patient care under the direction of the physician or Advanced Practice Provider (APP) in an ambulatory setting. Orlando Health Jewett Orthopedic Institute West Region is seeking a Certified Medical Assistant for their Orthopedics department. This role involves direct patient care, assisting with examinations and procedures, administering medications, documenting patient information, and acting as a liaison for scheduling tests and consultations. The position requires adherence to all Orlando Health policies and procedures, including safety and infection control standards.

Requirements

High school graduate or equivalent.
Successful completion of Medical Assistant training from an approved technical school (or at least one (1) year of verifiable and applicable work experience as a Certified Medical Assistant in a patient care setting) required.
Maintains current BLS Healthcare Provider Certification.
Maintains current certification or registration by one of the following agencies: Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA) by National Health career Association (NHA), Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) by the American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA), Clinical Medical Assistant Certification (CMAC) by the American Medical Certification Association (AMCA), National Certified Medical Assistant (NCMA) by National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT), Nationally Registered Certified Medical Assistant (NRCMA) or Nationally Registered Certified Advanced Medical Assistant (NRCAMA) by the National Association for Health Professionals (NAHP), Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) by American Medical Technologists (AMT), the American Registry of Medical Assistants (ARMA), or by American Allied Health (AAH).
Applicants with an accepted Medical Assistant certification or registration from an agency not listed will be considered on a case-by-case basis.

Responsibilities

Perform patient care under the direction of the physician or Advanced Practice Provider (APP) in an ambulatory setting.
Embrace and participate in quality initiatives, goal attainment, and clinical outcome process improvement activities.
Support and demonstrate effective and professional communication with patients and family members.
Work collaboratively with the administrative and operations staff.
Gather patient data through interviews and observation.
Assist patients and families with preparation for examination.
Assist the physician or APP during examination and procedures.
Demonstrate competency in specific tasks and skills as defined by the practice.
Provide routine treatments and administer approved medication types.
Document patient data, treatments, procedures, and patient education according to Orlando Health and department-specific policies.
Assist the physician or APP by acting as a liaison on behalf of the patient to schedule and provide scheduling information for specialty testing and/or specialty physician consultation.
Process incoming and outgoing calls independently and professionally using sound clinical judgment.
Enter medication, laboratory, and diagnostic imaging orders into the electronic medical system under the direction of a provider.
Adhere to and assure compliance with Orlando Health and department-specific policies, procedures, value statements, and Commitment to Excellent standards.
Consistently demonstrate personal and patient safety practices and adhere to infection control standards outlined in Orlando Health policies.
Maintain reasonably regular, punctual attendance consistent with Orlando Health policies, the ADA, FMLA, and other federal, state, and local standards.
Maintain compliance with all Orlando Health policies and procedures.
Demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care and assess data appropriate to the age-specific needs of patients in their assigned department and/or unit.
Demonstrate awareness of medical/legal issues, patient rights, and compliance with the standards of regulatory and accrediting agencies.
Practice efficient use of supplies.
Assist the business office as needed with reception, scheduling, and discharge of patients.
