About The Position

Mountain View Hospital is looking for a Certified Medical Assistant or Licensed Practical Nurse to join our team! This role is responsible for assisting physicians with patient care, including both clerical and clinical duties. The position involves collecting and processing routine tests, returning results to the doctor, and providing excellent customer service to patients, doctors, and other medical staff. The role requires the ability to work well under pressure and prioritize tasks. Responsibilities include performing CLIA waived moderate testing, handling patient referrals, managing charts, cleaning and stocking rooms, reconciling labs, rooming patients, taking vitals and medical history, managing Healthy Connection referrals/eligibility, making collection calls, obtaining prior authorizations, checking patients in/out at the front desk, collecting payments, scanning and discharging patients, answering phones, posting charges, some coding/billing, managing medical records, performing blood draws, and administering injections. The LPN specifically provides direct and indirect patient care, communicates effectively with providers and management regarding patient condition and test results, and responds quickly to changes in patient status. LPNs may also have inventory/ordering responsibilities and are expected to cross-train in areas like laboratory rapid assays, reception, and radiography.

Requirements

  • Current, unencumbered Idaho Medical Assistant Certificate (for CMA).
  • Current, unencumbered LPN Idaho license (for LPN).
  • Associated IV therapy certification within 60 days of hire (for LPN).
  • Associated drug administration certification within 60 days of hire (for LPN).

Responsibilities

  • Assist physician with patient care, clerical and clinical duties.
  • Collect and process routine testing, and return results to the doctor.
  • Provide customer service on the phone, to patients, doctors, and other medical staff.
  • Perform CLIA waived moderate testing.
  • Handle patient referrals, pull charts, file, clean/wrap instruments, and stock rooms.
  • Reconcile labs, room patients, take vitals and history.
  • Manage Healthy Connection referrals/eligibility, make collection calls, and obtain prior authorizations.
  • Check patients in/out at the front desk, collecting pertinent information.
  • Collect and process payments, scan and discharge patients, and answer phones.
  • Perform some coding/billing and manage medical records.
  • Perform blood draws and give injections.
  • Provide direct and indirect patient care in the clinic setting.
  • Communicate with providers, nurse manager, and co-workers about changes in patient's clinical condition, including results of diagnostic evaluation and changes in patient condition or symptomatology.
  • Respond quickly and accurately to changes in condition or response to treatment.
  • Utilize all training, skills, and abilities commonly developed through attainment of licensure.
  • May have inventory/ordering responsibilities.
  • Cross-train in additional areas of clinic responsibilities including laboratory rapid assays, reception, and radiographic.
  • Check schedules and organize patient flow.
  • Accompany patients to exam/procedure room.
  • Assist patients with walking, transfers, collecting specimens, and preparing for exam.
  • Collect patient history.
  • Perform screenings per provider guidelines.
  • Assist physician with various procedures.
  • Chart patient information.
  • Relay instructions to patients.
  • Answer calls and provide pertinent information.
  • Collect correct blood samples and other body fluids, ensuring proper patient identification and labeling of samples.
  • Transport and deliver samples to the laboratory following hospital policies and procedures.
  • Handle laboratory supplies and stock supplies.
  • Ensure patients receive appropriate competent and quality clinical care and that customer service meets patient expectations.
  • Adhere to all policy and procedures.
  • Provide age-appropriate care.
  • Report, monitor, and manage patient and staff incidents.
  • Monitor and manage patient and physician satisfaction results.
  • Follow standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required.
  • Perform sterile techniques.
  • Send/receive patient medical records.
  • Obtain lab/x-ray reports, hospital notes, and referral information.
  • Complete forms/requisitions as needed.
  • Schedule appointments.
  • Verify insurance coverage and patient demographics.
  • Manage and file charts to ensure information is complete and filed appropriately.
  • Set up instruments and equipment according to department protocol.
  • Clean exam/procedure rooms, instruments, and equipment between patient visits to maintain infection control.
  • Perform special tests such as clotting times, bleeding times, and glucose tolerance tests and report results to other lab personnel.
  • Maintain Point of Care documents and perform Quality Control management.
  • Orient and mentor new staff members.
  • Show good customer service on the phone and in person.
  • Perform miscellaneous tasks that promote smooth operations or other duties as deemed necessary.
  • Work under direct supervision of MD, PA-C or NP to provide excellent patient care to all clients that come to Urgent Care.
  • Perform a head-to-toe assessment on all patients and performs reassessments as per policy, including pediatric, geriatric, general patient population, and EMTALA appropriate medical screening exams.
  • Adequately assess and reassess pain, utilize appropriate pain management techniques, and educate the patient and family regarding pain management.
  • Revise plan of care as indicated by the patient’s response to treatment.
  • Perform waived testing (point-of-care testing) per clinical laboratory’s and patient care unit’s policies and procedures as needed when the lab tech is unavailable and perform tests in a timely manner.
  • Interpret results of waived tests accurately, taking appropriate action on waived tests’ results.
  • Perform patient care responsibilities considering needs specific to the standard of care for patient’s age.
  • Be knowledgeable of medications and their correct administration based on age of the patient and their clinical condition.
  • Follow the five medication rights and reduce the potential for medication errors.
  • Formulate a teaching plan based on identified patient learning needs and evaluate effectiveness of learning, including family as appropriate.
