The Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) is a health care professional who provides specific services in the Surgery Department under the supervision of a Registered Nurse (RN) and Surgeon. The CMA is active in the surgery process and collaborates with the surgical team to deliver quality and safe health care. The CMA has an understanding of the surgical processes in the operating room. Provides care while meeting physical, psychological, social, spiritual, and educational needs of the patient and family. The CMA collaborates with the surgical team to modify the plan of care based on the needs of the patient and reports changes in the patient’s condition to the RN. This is a transitional role. The expectation is for the selected applicant to complete the required Surgical Technologist training within 1 year of employment (online surgical technologist training) and achieve certification as a Surgical Technologist by the National Center for Competency Testing within 1 year of employment. Upon certification they will transition from a CMA role to the Surgical Technologist role. This transition will include a pay increase and a sign-on bonus.
