About The Position

Mercer Medicine is searching for a Certified Medical Assistant or Medical Assistant for the Macon, Georgia clinic. This position is expected to demonstrate the ability to multi-task by working with multiple patients and handling multiple phone calls including appointment-related calls such as call backs and scheduling appointments for follow-up visits. This position is expected to handle front and back office processes that include placing patients in rooms, taking vitals, prescription refills, referrals, payer authorizations. This position is also responsible for EMR documentation, patient work up to include vitals, updating patient information and patient education. Under supervision and collaboration with the overseeing physicians, this position will perform annual wellness visits, to include ordering appropriate lab screening test and immunizations based upon the physician’s protocols. This position is expected to perform all other assigned task within the scope of their certification, as applicable.

Requirements

  • High school diploma/GED
  • At least six months of healthcare experience involving direct patient care
  • Current national CMA certification (for Certified Medical Assistant position)
  • Phlebotomy experience (required for CMAs, preferred for MAs)
  • Ability to use a computer for patient check-out
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to multi-task
  • Experience with an electronic medical record system, preferably EMD and/or Athena
  • CPR certification must be earned within 6 months of start date

Responsibilities

  • Multi-tasking with multiple patients and phone calls, including appointment scheduling and callbacks.

  • Performing annual wellness visits, including ordering lab tests and immunizations based on physician protocols.
  • Performing all other assigned tasks within the scope of certification.
