About The Position

The Medical Assistant (MA) is a vital member of the healthcare team, responsible for gathering, screening, communicating, and acting upon delegated tasks from a provider, registered nurse, or licensed practical nurse within their scope of practice. The MA performs a blend of clerical and direct patient care duties. Clerical tasks include greeting patients, managing phone calls, scheduling appointments, and maintaining electronic medical records (EMR). Clinical duties involve rooming patients, taking medical histories, recording vital signs, preparing exam rooms for procedures, explaining treatments, preparing patients for examinations, facilitating patient flow, and assisting physicians, nurse practitioners, or physician assistants during examinations.

Requirements

  • Must be a Certified or Registered Medical Assistant
  • High School Diploma - OR - GED - OR - Graduate of a Medical Assistant Program
  • BLS Certification
  • Current Medical Assistant Certification awarded through American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA), the American Medical Technologists (AMT), the National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT), the American Medical Certification Association (AMCA), National Association of Healthcare Professionals (NAHP) or the National Healthcare Association (NHA). Medical Assistant Certification other than those listed requires THMG Leadership Approval.

Responsibilities

  • Gather, screen, communicate and act based on delegation from a provider, registered nurse or Licensed Practical nurse as per scope of practice.
  • Perform a combination of clerical and direct patient care duties.
  • Greet patients, answer telephones, schedule appointments, and update patients electronic medical record (EMR).
  • Room patients, take medical histories, perform and record vital signs, prepare exam room for procedures, explain treatment procedures to patients, prepare patients for examination, facilitate patient flow through the office, and assist the Physician, Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant during examinations.
