About The Position

The Medical Assistant (MA) is a vital member of the healthcare team, responsible for gathering, screening, communicating, and acting upon delegated tasks from a provider, registered nurse, or licensed practical nurse, all within the scope of practice. The MA performs a blend of clerical and direct patient care duties. Clerical duties involve greeting patients, managing phone calls, scheduling appointments, and maintaining electronic medical records (EMR). Clinical duties include preparing patients for examinations, taking medical histories, recording vital signs, preparing and cleaning exam rooms, explaining procedures to patients, facilitating patient flow, and assisting physicians, nurse practitioners, or physician assistants during examinations.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma - OR - GED - OR - Graduate of a Medical Assistant Program
  • No experience required
  • BLS Certification
  • Current Medical Assistant Certification awarded through American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA), the American Medical Technologists (AMT), the National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT), the American Medical Certification Association (AMCA), National Association of Healthcare Professionals (NAHP) or the National Healthcare Association (NHA).
  • Computer Skills to include use and navigation

Responsibilities

  • Gather, screen, communicate and act based on delegation from a provider, registered nurse or Licensed Practical nurse as per scope of practice.
  • Perform a combination of clerical and direct patient care duties.
  • Greet patients, answer telephones, and schedule appointments.
  • Update patients' electronic medical record (EMR).
  • Room patients, take medical histories, and perform and record vital signs.
  • Prepare exam room for procedures and explain treatment procedures to patients.
  • Prepare patients for examination and facilitate patient flow through the office.
  • Assist the Physician, Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant during examinations.
