About The Position

The Medical Assistant (MA) is a vital member of the healthcare team, responsible for gathering patient information, screening patients, communicating with patients and providers, and performing delegated tasks within their scope of practice under the supervision of a provider, registered nurse, or licensed practical nurse. The MA handles both clerical and direct patient care duties. Clerical tasks include greeting patients, managing phone calls, scheduling appointments, and maintaining electronic medical records (EMR). Clinical duties involve rooming patients, taking medical histories, recording vital signs, preparing examination rooms, explaining procedures to patients, preparing patients for examinations, facilitating patient flow, and assisting physicians, nurse practitioners, or physician assistants during examinations.

Requirements

  • Must be a Certified or Registered Medical Assistant
  • High School Diploma - OR - GED - OR - Graduate of a Medical Assistant Program
  • BLS Certification
  • Current Medical Assistant Certification awarded through American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA), the American Medical Technologists (AMT), the National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT), the American Medical Certification Association (AMCA), National Association of Healthcare Professionals (NAHP) or the National Healthcare Association (NHA). Medical Assistant Certification other than those listed requires THMG Leadership Approval.

Responsibilities

  • Gather, screen, communicate, and act on delegated tasks from a provider, registered nurse, or Licensed Practical nurse as per scope of practice.
