About The Position

The Bilingual Medical Assistant (Spanish-speaking) performs a wide variety of duties and responsibilities in a manner that emphasizes quality of care and customer service. The MA works collaboratively with all Clinical services staff in support of direct patient services, exhibiting flexibility and a positive attitude. Patients are the key priority in this position, requiring the MA to serve as a point of contact in an environment that promotes patient comfort and trust. The position must exemplify the core values and mission of the organization, exercising discretion, diplomacy, and tact in patient/staff interactions. The MA communicates immediate concerns regarding patient interactions to the Lead Medical Assistant. The MA reports to the Health Center Administrator.

Requirements

Fluency in Spanish required
High school diploma or GED required
Diploma from an accredited Medical Assistant school required
Current and valid Medical Assistant certification required
One year of experience in a clinical laboratory or medical office environment required
CPR certification required
Phlebotomy and lab skills
Knowledge of billing procedures and insurance verification
Data entry skills
Familiarity with managed care plans and referral process
Knowledge of ICD 9/10 codes
Extensive knowledge of medical terminology
Excellent organizational skills
Must have a pleasant manner
Ability to assist clinical staff when required
Ability to manage and complete assigned work
Flexibility

Responsibilities

Triage patients, including blood pressure, weight, height, pulse, and temperature.
Administer injections, immunizations, and venipuncture according to orders in the EHR for adults and children.
Collect lab specimens.
Perform EKGs if needed.
Report to other sites as needed.
Be responsible for all front desk functions in a primary care setting.
Schedule appointments.
Schedule specialty and ancillary appointments.
Answer phones.
Be responsible for patient registration data entry.
Verify insurance.
Conduct daily batching of encounter forms.
Follow up to obtain reports from specialists.
Assist providers and clinical staff as needed.
Assist patients as needed.
Review patient charts and encounter forms for completeness.
Scan reports into the EHR and distribute.
Ensure that prescription refill requests and voicemails are retrieved daily.
Report incidents as they occur.
Complete assigned training as required.
Utilize CPR skills if necessary.
Translate using Spanish.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Understand and adhere to PHMC compliance standards as they appear in the PHMC Code of Conduct, Whistleblower policy, and Conflict of Interest policy.
Keep abreast of all pertinent federal, state, and PHMC regulations, laws, and policies as they presently exist and as they change or are modified.
Comply with HIPAA and Confidentiality policies and procedures as they apply to the job.
Comply with Department of Public Health (DPH), The Joint Commission, and other accreditation and regulatory agencies' standards.
Adhere to all PHMC policies and procedures.
Know and adhere to the Infection Control and Environment of Care guidelines and procedures as described in the annual education module.
Maintain MDS sheets according to federal and state regulatory agencies.
Keep all required certifications current.
Complete all continuing education requirements as indicated in PHMC’s learning management system.
