About The Position

Penobscot Community Health Care is seeking a compassionate, recovery-focused Certified Intentional Peer Support Specialist (CIPSS) to join our Behavioral Health Home team. Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • Completion of the Maine Office of Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services (SAMHS curriculum for CIPSS. Curriculum must be completed, and certificate awarded within 9 months of employment.
  • Maintain CIPSS certification, once achieved.
  • Up-to-date training and certification in Healthcare Provider Basic Life Support issued by American Heart Association, American Red Cross, or American Health & Safety Institute. Must obtain within 2 weeks if not current at hire.
  • Valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record and/or an appropriate length of driving experience for insurance purposes is required.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous Experience with Electronic Health Record preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Use lived experience and recovery journey to inspire hope, provide encouragement, and support individuals as they build meaningful lives in recovery.
  • Partner with clients one-on-one and in group settings to help identify goals, develop recovery plans, strengthen self-advocacy skills, and celebrate progress.
  • Help individuals connect with housing, community resources, support groups, and services that promote independence, stability, and overall well-being.
  • Work closely with providers, nurses, social workers, medical assistants, and care team members to support whole-person care and help clients achieve their recovery goals.
  • Serve as a champion for recovery by helping individuals build confidence, find their voice, overcome barriers, and navigate systems of care with dignity and respect.
  • Expand knowledge and skills through ongoing training, including completion and maintenance of Maine's Certified Intentional Peer Support Specialist (CIPSS) certification.
