About The Position

The Instrument Equipment Technician Certified is responsible for ensuring the decontamination, preparation, and sterilization of surgical instrumentation and operating room equipment and accurately selects surgical case supplies. Ensures conformity to established procedures, infection control standards, industry standards, recommended practices on sterilization, and regulatory requirements. Requirements

High School Diploma/GED or equivalent OR 2 years of work experience in equipment sterilization or Instrument or Operating Room Aide or Tech.
CRCST (Certified Registered Central Service Technician) or CBSPD (Certification Board for Sterile Processing and Distribution).
Knowledge of aseptic technique, decontamination methods, sterilization process, testing and equipment.
Knowledge of surgical instrumentation, standard precautions for dealing with blood and body fluids and sharps.
Ability to identify surgical instrumentation, equipment, and supplies.
Ability to decontaminate instrumentation and prepare for sterilization process.
Ability to operate sterilization equipment and understand principles of sterilization.
Ability to use computer to access information.

Responsibilities

Decontaminates and sterilizes instruments, medical supplies, and equipment.
Assembles, wraps, and sterilizes trays of instruments.
Follows proper Standard Precautions while in decontamination and sterilization areas.
Processes endoscopes, scopes and/or probes.
Assembles and wraps appropriate instruments, supplies, and equipment.
Demonstrates knowledge of applicable sanitary, infection control, and safety standards to perform all assignments within the safety parameters.
Accurately selects surgical case supplies.
