About The Position
Indoor Science is a 20+ year Chicago-area industrial hygiene and indoor air quality consulting firm that is growing. They are looking for a Certified Industrial Hygienist to join their team and help them take on more of the interesting, high-difficulty projects they are known for, such as asbestos, lead, mold, indoor air quality, and unique investigations requiring detective work.
Requirements
- Active CIH strongly preferred — but if you're actively working toward your CIH (exam scheduled or in progress), we want to hear from you.
- Illinois Asbestos Inspector and Air Sampling licenses, or the ability to obtain them shortly after hire.
- A degree in Environmental Health & Safety, Occupational/Environmental Hygiene, Environmental Engineering, Physics, Chemistry, or Biology.
- Comfort with the consulting side of the work — talking to clients, scoping projects, and building relationships.
- Willingness to travel regionally (50%+) and be based in the Chicagoland area.
Responsibilities
- Conduct field investigations for indoor air quality, mold/moisture intrusion, asbestos, and lead across a wide range of residential, commercial, and industrial sites.
- Design sampling strategies, interpret results, and write clear, client-ready reports.
- Work directly with clients — property owners, facility managers, contractors, and insurers — as a trusted technical advisor.
- Take on unique, one-off projects that require creative problem-solving, not just a checklist.
- Sign off on technical work performed by junior team members.
