About The Position

This role challenges individuals to conduct industrial hygiene audits and site assessments, and provide program oversight and input to continuous improvement assessments. The position is located at the Port Hope site.

Requirements

  • Minimum Honours bachelor’s degree in occupational health and safety or a related scientific discipline (e.g., Environmental Science, Chemistry, Biology, Applied Science) from a recognized university.
  • Membership in an engineering or scientific professional organization authorized by statute.
  • Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH) or Registered Occupational Hygienist (ROH) designation or demonstrated ability and commitment to obtain the designation within a reasonable timeframe.
  • Minimum six (6) years of progressive experience in industrial hygiene, preferably within environmental remediation, nuclear, construction, or chemical sectors.
  • Demonstrated experience developing, implementing, and maintaining occupational health and industrial hygiene programs and procedures.
  • Experience with IH laboratory analysis, sampling methodologies, and direct reading instruments.
  • Ability to coach, mentor, train and develop personnel on IH practices.
  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills – written and oral - and proven ability to maintain successful working relations at all levels within the organization and with external stakeholders.
  • Strong organizational skills, with high attention to detail and ability to tailor communications to mixed audiences.
  • Security Clearance Eligibility Required
  • Reliability Status with Site Access Security Clearance (SASC), which has a minimum requirement of 3-5 years of verifiable history in Canada, Australia, New Zealand, the United States and/or the United Kingdom. CNL implements security screening in accordance with the Treasury Board of Canada Secretariat's “Standard on Security Screening” and the “Policy on Government Security.”

Responsibilities

  • Completing training, mentoring, and apprenticing work with Industrial Hygienist (IH) staff and completing continuous quality monitoring of work practices of IH staff and ensuring appropriate quality and consistency.
  • Identifying and evaluating methods to control hazards, including engineering controls, administrative controls, and personal protective equipment.
  • Providing technical support and subject matter expertise to project planning teams and field operations for projects.
  • Conducting industrial hygiene audits and site assessments.
  • Identifying gaps between current practices and company programs, procedures, regulatory requirements, industry standards and best practices related to Industrial Hygiene issues.
  • Providing program oversight and input for continuous improvement assessment.
  • Assisting in the coaching, mentoring and implementation of the IH programs in the field, assisting project teams and contractors as needed through coaching, mentoring, and relationship building.
  • Providing IH (Industrial Hygiene) subject matter expert (SME) support to the project by maintaining a visible presence in the field, performing site visits to the entire project.
  • Documenting observations pertaining to work oversight activities, including entering/transcribing oversight information in CNL’s various recordkeeping and information management systems according to established requirements.
  • Assisting in the development and maintenance of Safety Data Sheets, chemical inventories, and exposure databases.
  • Other duties as assigned by your manager.
