About The Position

The Association is seeking a Certified General Appraiser to conduct appraisals of real property to determine value using the cost, income, and sales comparison approaches to value. The role involves conducting on-site real estate appraisals of loan collateral and acquired property, providing credit specialists with necessary information for decision-making, and developing and maintaining comparable sales information. The successful candidate will also complete evaluations on real property and chattel valuations. This position requires a strong understanding of production agriculture and real estate valuation principles.

Requirements

  • BS degree in an agriculture or business-related field.
  • Current state certified general appraiser license.
  • Good standing in the state(s) that issued the license.
  • Compliance with continuing and/or qualifying education requirements.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in real estate valuation.
  • Knowledge and understanding of Farm Credit Regulations and agriculture.
  • Knowledge and understanding of agricultural government farm programs, commodity pricing, tax laws, water rights, grazing rights, fertility programs, etc., as they apply to agricultural property ownership.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to generate highly accurate work.
  • Proficiency in the use of a PC, including e-mail, word processing, spreadsheet, and appraisal-related software, including the use of automated valuation models.
  • Sound understanding of production agriculture.
  • Good foundational knowledge of real estate valuation principles and fundamentals.
  • Ability to interact effectively and work well with people at all levels of the organization.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Ability to represent the Association to customers and the public in an effective manner.
  • Ability to convey ideas clearly through written and verbal communication.
  • Skills in planning and organization.
  • Self-motivated with a strong work ethic.
  • Strong analytical skills.
  • Sound judgment.
  • Mobility on unimproved properties.
  • Ability to lift 40 pounds or more.
  • Some travel is required.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct appraisals of real property to determine value using the cost, income, and sales comparison approaches to value.
  • Analyze and apply the appropriate appraisal methodology.
  • Conduct on-site real estate appraisals of loan collateral and acquired property.
  • Provide credit specialists (commercial and mortgage) with adequate information to aid in their decision-making process.
  • Develop and maintain comparable sales information.
  • Complete evaluations on real property.
  • Complete chattel valuations.
  • Analyze and report sales data.
  • Update market area surveys.
  • Research water rights.
  • Map legal descriptions.
  • Obtain property information from various counties.
  • Inspect livestock, feed, and equipment inventories.
  • Conduct real property inspections.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
