About The Position

Smith Ironworks is a professional steel fabrication company seeking motivated full-time regular Field Welders. This role involves welding on structural iron and steel erection, ensuring tasks are completed safely, efficiently, and with high quality. The position requires working in both shop and field environments.

Requirements

  • High school diploma/GED required
  • MIG, TIG, or Stick welding experience
  • Minimum of 1-year experience in fabrication
  • Must be able to read blueprints/plans
  • Knowledge of reading erection drawings/plans
  • 2+ years’ experience as a Structural Steel / Misc. Erector
  • Welding certification: NR-232 Certified Welder, AWS-D1.1 Certified Welder- 3G/4G
  • Driver’s License
  • 5 years of welding experience
  • 2 years of blueprint/plan reading experience

Nice To Haves

  • Forklift/Boom Lift certifications
  • 5 years of Ironworker/Erector experience (Preferred)
  • 5 years of Structural Welding experience (Preferred)

Responsibilities

  • Carefully plan jobs by reading and following erection drawings/plans.
  • Use cranes to lift and guide steel components into position, demonstrating knowledge of crane signals.
  • Accurately align and level steel components before bolting and welding.
  • Utilize mobile elevated work platforms, ladders, and lifts to access elevated sections.
  • Install metal decking and safety railing.
  • Strictly adhere to OSHA guidelines for health and safety.
  • Regularly use a variety of hand-held and motorized tools and machinery.
  • Lay out, position, and secure parts and assemblies using measuring tools.
  • Tack weld or weld components and assemblies using GTAW or GMAW techniques.
  • Inspect components to ensure compliance with manufacturing blueprints.
  • Cut workpieces using powered die grinders, hand grinders, and/or hand shears.
  • Weld in multiple positions.
  • Analyze engineering drawings and specifications to plan layout, assembly, and welding operations.
  • Perform routine maintenance on equipment and determine necessary maintenance.
  • Display basic mechanical aptitude, understand equipment function and servicing, and perform preventive maintenance.
