This position maintains emergency records, performs stocking and cleaning functions within the department, and assists in the provision of patient comfort measures. The Certified Emergency Department Technician performs certain technical duties as assigned by licensed staff and assists with transporting patients, specimens, and equipment.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma/GED
  • 1 year of experience in an emergency department.
  • Ability to work under pressure to meet deadlines.
  • Ability to maintain effective interpersonal relationships.
  • Ability to recognize, analyze, and solve a variety of problems.
  • Ability to use emergency alert notification systems.
  • American Heart Association Basic Life Support - State of Pennsylvania Upon Hire

Responsibilities

  • Assists in the collection of patient history and ensures the confidentiality of records.
  • Cleans and prepares rooms between procedures, changes bed linens, and re-stocks room supplies.
  • Transports patients from triage/waiting area to the treatment area in the emergency department.
  • Assists with clerical work such as answering phones, entering data, and maintaining medical records.
  • Transports patients to and from other departments and discharges patients in wheelchairs utilizing proper techniques of body mechanics to protect patients and personal safety.
  • Performs technical tasks such as administering a 12-lead electrocardiogram test and routine venipuncture.
  • Assists with orientation of new emergency department technicians.
  • Prepares patients for examinations/treatments such as draping patients, opening sterile supplies, and set-up and removal of IVs.
  • Assists in routine treatment procedures and works with staff nurse and/or physician with sterile procedures.
