About The Position

This role involves managing food service operations within a healthcare or long-term care setting. The Certified Dietary Manager will oversee all aspects of the department, ensuring compliance with regulations, maintaining a safe and clean environment, and managing budgets and staff. The position requires a blend of administrative and hands-on responsibilities, with frequent interaction with residents, families, and staff.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Certified Dietary Manager (CDM) or registered Food Service Director (or ability to obtain per state requirements).
  • Strong understanding of food service regulations, safety standards, and healthcare compliance requirements.
  • Ability to read, write, and communicate effectively in English.
  • Strong leadership, organizational, and decision-making skills.
  • Ability to interact professionally with residents, families, staff, and the public.
  • Ability to plan, implement, and oversee departmental operations, policies, and procedures.
  • Ability to move throughout the facility for extended periods.
  • Ability to lift, push, pull, and carry up to 25 pounds regularly.
  • Ability to respond quickly in emergency situations.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage physical and emotional demands of the role.
  • Adequate vision and hearing (with or without assistance) to safely perform job duties.

Nice To Haves

  • Completion of an accredited dietary or food service training program preferred.
  • Supervisory experience in food service, preferably in a healthcare or long-term care setting preferred.
  • Training in food service management, cost control, and therapeutic diets preferred.
  • Experience managing budgets, food cost controls, and inventory systems preferred.
  • Positive attitude, patience, and strong interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to adapt, problem-solve, and implement new ideas or processes.
  • Professional integrity and the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Compassion and respect when working with elderly or vulnerable populations.

Responsibilities

  • Manage food service operations in office settings and throughout food service areas, including the kitchen, dining rooms, and resident areas.
  • Ensure compliance with food service regulations, safety standards, and healthcare compliance requirements.
  • Oversee departmental operations, policies, and procedures.
  • Manage budgets, food cost controls, and inventory systems.
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and compliant food service environment.
  • Collaborate with nursing staff, medical providers, and department leaders.
  • Interact professionally with residents, families, staff, and the public.
  • Respond to emergencies, including potential extended hours, weekend shifts, or coverage in other roles as needed.
  • Be available on-call during emergencies (e.g., severe weather, evacuations, disaster response).
  • Assist with resident evacuations if needed.
