Our well-established pediatric clinic in Katy is expanding to meet the needs of our thriving community, and we’re looking for passionate, dedicated professionals to join our team. The Certified Diabetes Educator will provide extensive outpatient and in-patient education on the necessary lifestyle changes involved in a diabetes diagnosis, including nutrition, medication, physical activity and glucose testing.

Requirements

  • Registered Nurse (RN) State Licensure or Nurse Licensure Compact (NLC) by Texas Board of Nursing (BON) required
  • Registered Dietitian (RD) by Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR) required
  • Licensed Dietitian by Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation (TDLR) required
  • Certified Diabetes Care and Education Specialist (CDCES) by Certification Board for Diabetes Care and Education (CBDCE) required
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing or Bachelor’s Degree in Food & Nutrition Sciences or related field.
  • Three years of experience. May substitute required experience with equivalent years of education beyond the minimum education requirement.
  • Employees must permanently reside and work in the State of Texas.

Responsibilities

  • Educate patients on blood glucose monitoring, pattern management of blood glucose, insulin administration and safety guidelines, and insulin pump and continuous glucose monitoring system training.
  • Provides assistance to the patient in obtaining diabetic supplies.
  • Refer patients to community resources.
  • Management of diabetics in the clinic, and via phone.
  • Manage the diabetic program in compliance with the American Diabetic Association guidelines.
  • Provide case management of diabetic patients under physicians’ supervision.
  • Provide diabetes training and education to clinical staff.
  • Assist with research projects including data collection, patient recruitment, and other duties as needed.
  • Communicate with patients and families on a daily basis reviewing blood sugar reports.
  • Communicate with schools that have diabetic patients regarding diabetes management.
  • Refill insulin and diabetic supplies.
  • Other duties as assigned.
