About The Position
The Critical Care Tech works under the direction of a Registered Nurse (RN) to assist patients with activities of daily living and support the overall plan of care. The role includes direct communication and support for the healthcare team, patients, and their families or significant others. The position requires maintaining high standards of professional ethics and contributing to quality patient care within the organization. The tech supports daily care needs, performs technical duties as directed by an RN, observes and communicates changes in patient status, reinforces patient and family education, and contributes to safety, quality, and patient satisfaction initiatives. The role also includes helping orient new hires and completing required annual hospital and unit-specific competencies.
Requirements
- 0–2 years of experience required.
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Successful completion of Patient Care Technician training and an active Patient Care Technician Certification required.
- AHA Basic Life Support certification required.
- Successful completion of the CPCT-A certification required.
- Effective communication skills for interacting with patients, visitors, and coworkers.
- Ability to identify and communicate changes in patient status.
Responsibilities
- Assist patients with activities of daily living, including bathing, dressing, feeding, hygiene, mobility, and transport, while following standard precautions.
- Perform technical duties as directed by an RN, including phlebotomy, taking vital signs, point-of-care testing, EKGs, and Foley catheter care, and document appropriately.
- Identify and communicate changes in patient status to the RN and respond appropriately while maintaining safe patient practices.
- Reinforce education for patients and families regarding care needs and safety.
- Participate in patient satisfaction initiatives and performance improvement activities.
- Assist in orienting new hires.
- Complete annual hospital and unit-specific competencies by the required due date.
- Adhere consistently to safety protocols and quality standards to support a safe environment and high-quality patient care.
