Job Summary: The Medical Technologist Generalist performs various scientific techniques for patient testing. This position provides coverage in multiple areas under the direction of the department’s leadership and in accordance with established guidelines and standard operating procedures.

Requirements

Bachelor's degree in a chemical, physical, biological or clinical laboratory science or medical technology from an accredited institution; or Associate’s degree in a laboratory science (chemical or biological science) or medical laboratory technology from an accredited institution.
Current certification as Medical Technologist / Medical Laboratory Scientist or appropriate categorical certification through the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP), American Medical Technologists (AMT) or American Association of Bioanalysts (AAB)
Minimum one year experience in related high complexity testing
Excellent organizational, communication and interpersonal skills
Ability to manage multiple priorities
Excellent attention to detail
Ability to work in a team environment
Willingness to maintain confidential information
Will be analyzed for color perception

Responsibilities

Follow the laboratory’s procedures for specimen handling and processing, test analyses, reporting and maintaining records
Maintain records that demonstrate that proficiency testing samples are tested in the same manner as patient specimens.
Serve as a trainer, as needed.
Responsible for monitoring test analyses and specimen examinations to ensure that acceptable levels of analytic performance are maintained
Performs routine and complex laboratory procedures and tests in multiple, cross-functional departments
Maintains proficiency and competency in performance for the testing menu
Follow the laboratory’s established policies and procedures
Document all corrective actions taken when test systems deviate from the laboratory’s established performance specification
Performs equipment and assay verifications, validation and equivalencies according to the approved plans.
Participates in regulatory agency inspection readiness and onsite inspections
Communicates effectively and timely as needed to co-workers, management, medical directors, and other divisions
Other duties as assigned.
