Certified Teacher - Tucson Elementary Campus (K-3rd Grade)
About The Position
Arizona Autism Charter Schools (AZACS) is seeking a Certified Classroom Teacher for its Tucson Elementary Campus (K-3rd Grade). AZACS is an award-winning institution, recognized for its innovation in education and its unique individualized learning programs for students with autism. The AZACS Teacher’s Academy offers a pathway for individuals with a bachelor's degree to advance their careers through hands-on learning, comprehensive training, and support from certified professionals. The Classroom Teacher will implement instruction within a structured classroom model, under the guidance of campus leadership, teaching the adopted curriculum and students' IEP goals. This role requires experience with classroom teaching and ABA strategies, preferably within school settings, and the ability to train, coach, and motivate behavioral staff. The teacher will collaborate closely with SPED Campus Leadership and the ABA Manager to achieve optimal results for students on the autism spectrum and related disorders.
Requirements
- Valid Arizona Department of Education Standard Teaching Certification
- Bachelor's degree required
- Enrollment in the AZACS Teaching Certification program or a college/university certification program
- Mastery and enthusiasm for best practices in autism education and Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA)
- Track record of success in behavior management with students with autism or other special needs
- Ability to approach situations with optimism and perseverance
- Ability to communicate with parents, co-workers, and professional contacts courteously and professionally, and follow AZACS guidelines
- Ability to work independently and coordinate multiple tasks simultaneously
- Ability to exercise reasonable judgment and maintain confidentiality
- Experience and training in Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA)
- Consistent and regular attendance is an essential function of this position
- Valid Arizona IVP fingerprint clearance card
Nice To Haves
- At least 1 year of experience working with students with moderate to severe disabilities in a classroom environment is preferred
- Experience in structured teaching, center-based model preferred
Responsibilities
- Serve as the lead teacher and point person in a classroom
- Work with a classroom team that includes work with a classroom teacher
- Ensure that the classroom support staff are implementing instructional strategies and lessons as set forth
- Create a safe and effective learning environment
- Weekly lesson planning for instruction of state standards
- Provide daily feedback to support staff
- Participate in regular observations and in-the-moment coaching from campus leadership, and report data with high fidelity and analyze data bi-weekly to make instructional decisions
- Regular parent communication following AZACS guidelines
- Modification of materials to meet student needs and IEP requirements
- Maintain substitute plans in case of absence
- Participate in all duties and responsibilities as appropriate for an AZACS faculty member
- Contribute to IEPs as appropriate
- Other duties as assigned by the administration
