About The Position

WSP is seeking a highly skilled and detail oriented NBIS Certified Bridge Inspection Team Leader to join our Mountain/Pacific Northwest Region Bridge Inspection Group. In this role, you will lead NBIS/NTIS inspections of bridges, tunnels, ancillary structures, and other transportation structure and deliver high quality technical documentation and reports that support our clients’ infrastructure programs. You’ll be a key contributor to WSP’s mission of designing and maintaining resilient, sustainable, and safe transportation networks across the United States.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Structural or Civil Engineering, or closely related discipline.
  • 7+ years of relevant post education experience in engineering discipline and prior structural or civil design experience.
  • NBIS Certified Bridge Inspection Team Leader with up-to-date certifications.
  • Engineer license required.
  • Strong understanding of AASHTO, FHWA, and state inspection standards.
  • Proficiency with inspection tools and technologies, such as tablets, drones, NDT equipment, and digital data collection platforms.
  • Ability to read and interpret structural plans, specifications, and load rating analyses.
  • Excellent technical writing and documentation skills.
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to travel for field assignments.
  • Physical ability to perform fieldwork, including climbing, lifting equipment, and working at heights or over water.
  • Highly effective interpersonal and communication skills when interacting with others, expressing ideas effectively and professionally to an engineering and non-engineering audience.
  • Demonstrated high-level of self-leadership with attention to detail, multi-tasking, and prioritization of responsibilities in a dynamic work environment.
  • Well-developed critical thinking and problem-solving skills required to apply technical knowledge to reach conclusions from testing results, data collation, computations, statistical analysis and arriving at the most effective, economical, and logical solution.
  • Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.
  • Ability to work schedules conducive to project-specific requirements that may extend beyond the typical workweek.
  • Occasional travel may be required depending on project-specific requirements.

Nice To Haves

  • NTIS Certified Tunnel Inspection Team Leader with up-to-date certifications.
  • Experience with complex structures, movable bridges, or fracture critical/NSTM inspections.
  • Rope access certification (SPRAT/IRATA) or willingness to obtain.
  • Familiarity with GIS based asset management systems and digital inspection platforms.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and perform inspections performed under state DOT /transit authority/local agency regulations, National Bridge Inspection Standards (NBIS), National Tunnel Inspection Standards (NTIS), and WSP quality standards.
  • Plan, coordinate, and oversee field inspection activities, including scheduling, safety planning, equipment preparation, and team task assignments.
  • Conduct hands on, rope access, or specialized access inspections as required, including fracture critical/NSTM and complex structure evaluations.
  • Document inspection findings through detailed field notes, measurements, photographs, and sketches.
  • Prepare comprehensive inspection reports, including condition ratings, deficiency identification, and recommended maintenance or repair actions.
  • Interpret structural plans, load ratings, and previous inspection data to inform inspection strategies and assessments.
  • Ensure compliance with safety protocols, including traffic control, confined space entry, and fall protection procedures.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, including structural engineers, project managers, and CAD technicians, to support project delivery.
  • Mentor junior inspectors, providing technical guidance, field training, and quality oversight.
  • Engage with clients and stakeholders to communicate inspection results, project progress, and technical recommendations.
  • Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct, and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.
  • Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.
