About The Position

The Certified Athletic Trainer (AT) reports to the Sports Medicine Manager. The AT will be assigned to a high school and provide community-based point of service for sports related prevention, care, coverage and rehabilitation, referral and marketing for musculoskeletal injuries and sports related ailments within a defined environment for athletes; school aged, adolescent, early adult, middle adult and late adult. Under the general supervision of the physician, physical therapist, physician assistant and or nurse practitioner.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited college with a BS/BA.
  • Certification by the Board of Certification for Athletic Trainers (BOC).
  • Certified as an Athletic Trainer in South Carolina by DHEC.
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) required, either a certification from an American Heart Association (AHA) BLS for Healthcare Providers (or AHA recognized equivalent) or an American Red Cross CPR/AED for Professional Rescuer and Healthcare Provider.
  • Ability to perform job functions while standing (Continuous).
  • Ability to perform job functions while sitting (Continuous).
  • Ability to perform job functions while walking (Continuous).
  • Ability to work indoors (Continuous).
  • Ability to perform gross motor activities with fingers and hands (Continuous).
  • Ability to perform firm grasping with fingers and hands (Continuous).
  • Ability to perform fine manipulation with fingers and hands (Continuous).
  • Ability to reach in all directions (Continuous).
  • Ability to perform repetitive motions with hands/wrists/elbows and shoulders (Continuous).
  • Ability to fully use both legs (Continuous).
  • Ability to maintain 20/40 vision, corrected, in one eye or with both eyes (Continuous).
  • Ability to see and recognize objects close at hand or at a distance (Continuous).
  • Ability to match or discriminate between colors (Continuous).
  • Ability to determine distance/relationship between objects; depth perception (Continuous).
  • Good peripheral vision capabilities (Continuous).
  • Ability to maintain hearing acuity, with correction (Continuous).
  • Ability to perform gross motor functions with frequent fine motor movements (Continuous).
  • Ability to deal effectively with stressful situations (Continuous).
  • Ability to work in a latex safe environment (Continuous).
  • Ability to maintain tactile sensory functions (Continuous).
  • Ability to be qualified physically for respirator use, initially and as required (Continuous).

Nice To Haves

  • Masters degree in Athletic Training preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Provide community-based point of service for sports related prevention, care, coverage and rehabilitation.
  • Referral and marketing for musculoskeletal injuries and sports related ailments within a defined environment for athletes.
  • Adjust communication both verbal and non-verbal to interact appropriately and effectively with a wide variety of age groups including school age adolescents, adults and geriatrics.
  • Cover practices, games, tournaments, and special events on weekends and evenings.
