About The Position

The Certification Manager is responsible for administering the Villa Rica Police Department’s state certification process and maintaining the Department Directives Manual in accordance with applicable certification standards and law-enforcement best practices. The position acts on behalf of the Chief of Police in matters involving certification, compliance, policy, procedure, and written directives.

Requirements

High School Diploma or GED
Certified Peace Officer
One (1) year of experience with law enforcement certifications

State Certification Manager certification through Georgia POST; or ability to obtain it within one (1) year of appointment to the position.

Responsibilities

Administers the Department’s state certification and re-certification process and has direct access to Department employees regarding matters of compliance, policy, and procedure.
Publishes written directives on behalf of the Chief of Police and prepares, reviews, updates, and coordinates policies and procedures necessary to maintain compliance with applicable standards.
Provides notification, instruction, and guidance regarding certification requirements to Department personnel during self-assessment, annual re-certification, prior to on-site assessments, and to newly hired personnel within established timeframes.
Implements new or revised programs, procedures, functions, and other measures required to achieve and maintain compliance with applicable certification standards.
Provides command personnel, upon request, interpretation of Department policies and procedures; conducts research and planning related to certification and policy matters.
Identifies budget considerations related to the certification process, establishes priorities for preparation of compliance documentation, and submits necessary waivers in a timely manner.
Delegates responsibility for preparing compliance documentation as needed; trains involved personnel, monitors reporting progress, and reviews and approves submitted documentation.
Gathers, organizes, reviews, and edits certification files and compliance documentation, including materials prepared by others.
Maintains electronic and hard-copy archives of written directives, Special Orders, certification contracts, compliance reports, assessment reports, annual timetables, inventories, and other records required by applicable standards.
Indexes, reviews, and, as necessary, purges directives and maintains an inventory of Written Directives and Special Orders.
Acts as the Department representative on policy issues involving legal matters and at Georgia Police Accreditation Coalition (GPAC) meetings and functions.
Facilitates revisions to written directives, distributes drafts for review and comment, evaluates consistency with existing directives and applicable law, and submits final recommendations to the Chief of Police for approval and issuance.
Disseminates new and revised written directives through the Department’s computerized documentation system and maintains accessible current and historical directive files and employee acknowledgement records.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
