About The Position

At NorthBay Health, the CPT / MAII, collects and prepares lab samples for transport to reference laboratories. Registers patients and enters requisition into electronic medical record. Facilitates the flow of information into and out of the lab by interacting with the public, using computer systems, delivering reports and answering phones and processes mail. Is responsible for providing direct patient care in support of a provider in an ambulatory care setting under the direction and supervision of a licensed physician. Administer medications upon authorization and supervision of a physician. Distribution of staff and patients may require reassignment to other nursing areas.

Requirements

  • Certification as a Phlebotomy Technician (CPT)
  • Medical Assistant II (MAII) certification
  • Ability to interpret physician orders
  • Accurate computer entry and manual requisition of lab requests
  • Proficiency in obtaining specimens using approved methods
  • Correct patient identification and specimen/requisition verification
  • Maintenance of permanent record files and laboratory logs
  • Prompt and courteous phone answering
  • Ability to maintain a neat and orderly work area
  • Appropriate and prompt preparation of specimens for transport
  • Inventory management and supply ordering
  • Willingness to attend staff meetings and inservices for skill improvement
  • Ability to perform duties of Clerk/File/Computer Clerk or Courier when assigned
  • Processing of Microbiology specimens, stamping requisitions, and planting specimens
  • Active participation in QI activities
  • Provision of direct patient care according to policies and procedures
  • Preparation of patients for providers, including vital signs and clinical data collection
  • Administration of medications (oral, injections, nebulizer treatments)
  • Ensuring smooth operation of provider's office practice
  • Assisting provider and/or performing procedures within scope of practice
  • Documentation of patient encounters according to nursing policies
  • Review of preventative guidelines and patient status
  • Anticipation of Health Education material needs
  • Assisting provider with follow-up on abnormal results or ongoing problems
  • Scheduling patients for procedures and providing educational materials

Responsibilities

  • Maintains a neat and orderly work area and assists in the general cleanliness of the laboratory.
  • Prepares specimens for transport to reference labs appropriately and promptly.
  • Keeps an inventory and prepares orders for supplies.
  • Seeks to continually improve job skills by attending staff meetings and inservices.
  • Performs the duties of the Clerk/File/Computer Clerk or Courier when assigned.
  • Processes specimens for Microbiology, stamps in requisitions and plants specimens on appropriate media promptly.
