About The Position

The Certified Pharmacy Technician aids pharmacists in providing pharmaceutical care services to patients by assisting in the preparation, dispensing, record keeping, and transporting of medications for all patients including the following age groups: neonatal, pediatric, adolescence, adult, and geriatric. Under minimal supervision, this role performs the required duties of a technician at a high level of proficiency, demonstrating exemplary work behaviors and ownership for the success of the work area. This position also learns, performs and completes assignments/responsibilities assigned during the transitional duty period.

Requirements

  • Virginia Board of Pharmacy registration.
  • Pharmacy Technician certification from the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) or The Exam for the Certification of Pharmacy Technicians (ExCPT) within 6 months of employment.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Ability to work all shifts, weekends, holidays, and emergency coverage.
  • Lifting 20-50 lbs.

Nice To Haves

  • One year previous pharmacy practice experience in a similar setting.
  • Previous experience using a standard keyboard and typing speed of 20-30 words per minute.

Responsibilities

  • Assisting in the preparation, dispensing, record keeping, and transporting of medications for all patients including neonatal, pediatric, adolescence, adult, and geriatric age groups.
  • Performing required duties of a technician at a high level of proficiency.
  • Demonstrating exemplary work behaviors and ownership for the success of the work area.
  • Learning, performing, and completing assignments/responsibilities during the transitional duty period.
  • Performing tasks designated by the pharmacist to assist in patient care that do not legally require a pharmacist’s supervision or verification.
  • Communicating effectively with all staff members.
  • Identifying equipment or operational problems and bringing them to the attention of a pharmacist or pharmacy manager.
  • Interacting with other health care practitioners in a multidisciplinary environment.
