About The Position

This position participates with the interdisciplinary care team in the delivery of the patient's plan of care. The Certified Nursing Assistant Apprentice provides hands-on patient care and assists the RN and other team members with treatments, procedures, and reporting pertinent information to the appropriate care team member. Performs specific service and technical duties necessary to provide for the comfort, care, and safety of patients under the direction and supervision of the Registered Nurse. Assists in maintaining supplies and equipment on the nursing unit. This role does not function as a Patient Safety Attendant (sitter) and cannot float to the CMH Mental Health Center. The position reports to the Nurse Manager/Assistant Nurse Manager of the assigned unit and the RNs on duty on each assigned shift.

Requirements

• State of Wisconsin Nursing Assistant Certification is required.
• American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support for the Healthcare Provider (BLS) or an AHA approved equivalent is required within 90 days of hire.
• Good interpersonal skills to interact positively and effectively with patients, visitors and hospital personnel.
• Sound communication and writing skills.
• Math skills to perform simple arithmetic calculations.
• Observational and analytical skills to identify patient changes/problems to prioritize and react appropriately.
• Familiarity with PCs and other computerized patient care tools, or demonstrated ability to learn.

Nice To Haves

• High School diploma or equivalent is preferred.
