This position offers flexible scheduling to work around your school commitments and includes a rotating 24-hour weekend call requirement for added experience.

Requirements

High school Graduate/GED OR 1 year of experience with UPMC
Six months of healthcare experience required
Must be able to stand for all shift hours and be able to pick up, push, pull etc. 35 pounds.
Certification Board for Sterile Processing and Distribution or Certified Registered Central Service Technician with Healthcare Sterile Processing Association.
Certification required in our PA and NY facilities (MD is excluded).
New employees in our PA and NY facilities (MD is excluded) will have 18 months from date of hire to obtain required certification.
Act 34 with renewal

Nice To Haves

Currently enrolled in an Accredited Surgical Technician/Sterile Processing Program Preferred.
If grandfathered as a technician who does not hold certification, must complete 10 hours of continuing education to remain qualified as a Central Sterile Technician on an annual basis.
Certified staff are required to complete 10-12 hours of continuing education as a condition of maintaining certification, as determined by the certifying body.
Staff pending certification within 18 months of hire are not required to complete continuing education until certified.

Responsibilities

Clean, decontaminate, inspect, assemble, package, sterilize, and distribute surgical instruments and equipment.
Prepare and assemble surgical trays following established listings for issue, storage, or further processing.
Maintain a working knowledge of all decontamination and sterilization equipment and troubleshoot as needed.
Monitor, read, and document sterilizer parameters to ensure proper function.
Assess supplies for surgical procedures and set up case carts.
Maintain inventory and ensure instruments and patient care equipment are properly cleaned and reassembled.
Follow infection control and safety protocols at all times.
Participate in performance improvement activities and demonstrate strong communication skills.
Display awareness of cost containment and efficient work practices.
