About The Position

The University of Maryland Capital Region Medical Center is seeking an experienced Full Time Evening Shift Central Sterile Processing Technician II to join our Central Sterile Processing Department. This is an outstanding opportunity to become part of a high performing perioperative services team dedicated to delivering exceptional patient care. In this critical role, you will be responsible for the decontamination, inspection, assembly, sterilization, storage, and distribution of surgical instruments and medical equipment. Your expertise will help ensure every procedure begins with safe, properly processed instrumentation while maintaining compliance with AAMI standards, infection prevention guidelines, and departmental policies. You will also support case cart preparation, quality control testing, and urgent instrumentation needs that keep Operating Room operations running safely and efficiently.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Certified Registered Central Service Technician (CRCST) certification required.
  • Minimum of two (2) years of hospital-based Central Sterile Processing experience required.

Responsibilities

  • Decontaminate, inspect, assemble, and sterilize surgical instruments, trays, and medical equipment.
  • Prepare instrument sets, case carts, and sterile supplies for scheduled and emergency surgical procedures.
  • Inspect instruments for cleanliness, functionality, completeness, and sterility before distribution.
  • Remove, document, and coordinate repair of damaged instrumentation.
  • Operate and perform routine quality checks on sterilization and decontamination equipment.
  • Complete biological testing, sterilization monitoring, and quality control documentation.
  • Stock, organize, receive, and distribute sterile supplies throughout the hospital.
  • Prioritize urgent instrument requests to support emergent patient care.
  • Maintain compliance with AAMI standards, infection prevention practices, and patient safety protocols.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe Central Sterile Processing environment.
  • Support departmental operations and perform additional duties as assigned.
