About The Position

UPMC Mercy is expanding and seeking detail-oriented professionals to join their Sterile Processing team. This role is crucial for supporting surgical excellence and patient care. The position offers evening shifts (2:00 PM – 10:30 PM) and night shifts (10:30 PM – 7:00 AM). The Sterile Processing Associate is responsible for cleaning, assembling, and sterilizing surgical instruments and equipment, and will contribute to major hospital initiatives like OR upgrades and Pavilion relocation to ensure safe and efficient operations.

Requirements

• Prior healthcare experience is required
• Solid attendance and professionalism
• High school diploma/GED or equivalent with no experience -OR- Currently enrolled in an Accredited Surgical Technician/Sterile Processing Program Preferred -OR-1 year of experience within UPMC
• Must be able to stand for all shift hours
• Must be able to pick up, push, pull etc. 35 pounds

Nice To Haves

• Certification is a plus, but not required
• Certified Registered Central Service Technician with Healthcare Sterile Processing Association
• Certification Board for Sterile Processing and Distribution

Responsibilities

• Decontaminate and sterilize instruments using manual and mechanical methods
• Assemble surgical trays and case carts per established protocols
• Monitor and document sterilization parameters
• Maintain and troubleshoot sterilization equipment
• Collaborate with team members and communicate effectively
• Participate in performance improvement and ongoing education
